Proud Democrat. Lifelong Advocate. Committed Husband & Father. Union Strong.

On January 20, Vote Chris Leibig for Fifth District Delegate.

Meet Chris

  • Alexandria Public Defender from 1996-2002

  • Since 2002, one of Virginia’s top defense attorneys, practicing out of his Old Town office

  • As an attorney, best known for being calm under pressure, deep commitment to his clients, and the unusual ability in an adversarial field to achieve incredible results without compromising decency, professional respect or kindness

  • Graduate of Falls Church High School, Georgetown University and William and Mary Law School

  • Married and lives in Del Ray with his wife, a current Alexandria Public Defender

  • Father of three and grandfather of two

  • President-Elect, Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers

  • 20-year member of NORML Legal Committee

  • Life-long union supporter from a family of labor advocates

On the Issues

  • Create truly equal opportunities in education for Virginia’s youth

  • Reduce Virginia’s disgraceful incarceration rates by investing in people & communities, not jails & prisons

  • Support labor & unions … and repeal “Right to Work”

  • Rebuild and reform a mental health system that has failed our most vulnerable neighbors and loved ones

  • Why is housing unaffordable? Because there isn’t enough of it, and where density exists, we aren’t doing enough to make living there practical and appealing

  • In the wealthiest independent city in the Commonwealth, and the wealthiest country in the world, no one should be homeless or lack excellent health care. Solutions aren’t complicated—they just require a depth of commitment our leaders have been unwilling to make

  • With democracy under attack, we must elect leaders with the proven experience, empathy, strength of character, and poise under pressure to fight courageously and strategically in defense of our community and its values

On “Experience”

Why does it feel like local politics is always the same people? Diversity of experience, talents and ideas is what makes Democrats strong. And that’s why I’m best prepared to represent our community in Richmond. I’ve been an old town small business owner for 22 years, fought for marijuana legalization for 20 years, and personally advocate for individual rights in court as a daily job. Not merely on a campaign trail or in committees. Not next month. Today. When there’s a problem I say, ‘what time’s the flight?’
— Chris Leibig
Ask any friend and they’ll tell you the same thing: Chris is one of the kindest, most humble, empathetic and generous people they’ve ever met. And what’s remarkable is he’s the exact same person when he’s fighting for his clients. Much like a criminal courtroom, politics can get ugly; the General Assembly needs more people like Chris, who remain steadfast to their values no matter the circumstances.
— Brad Haywood, Founder of Justice Forward Virginia & Former Arlington Chief Public Defender
